Radio One Inspire Me Tour

Ahead of Radio One’s Big Weekend later this month, Radio One have been on their Inspire Me Tour of the local area and I’m proud to say I was one of the local personalities invited to take part. BBC Radio one are hosting outreach sessions across schools, colleges and universities across the North East ahead of their Big Weekend music festival in Middlesbrough later this month.

I alongside local actress Jessica Daley, BBC Tees Drive Producer Helen Noteyoung and others joined radio one in speaking to young people and introducing them to creative and sporting industries. The Inspire Me Tour aims to help young people by giving them the motivation, skills and know-how to make the first steps into working in creative and sporting industries.

I was chosen to give a talk to 300 pupils at Unity City Academy. It was a fantastic opportunity to share my story with the local community and a younger generation, explaining my journey from where I started in boxing to where I am now. My hope is that the talk not only inspired and motivated the students in relation to sporting or creative pursuits but with regards to life in general. Dedication is an important factor in any success and I feel many of the students came away better understanding this philosophy and I trust it will serve them well in the future.

The inspire me tour is an excellent project and great for the young people of Middlesbrough. I’m proud to have been picked to join radio one alongside some incredible people from the Middlesbrough area to introduce local students to roles within sports and creative industries and share the importance of life skills such as resilience, hard work and confidence with them.
